10 Reasons to Elope

So you're thinking about eloping? That’s awesome! LET'S DO IT TOGETHER! Here's a list of 10 reasons eloping might be right for you and your significant other. Check it out and let us know what others reasons you have for eloping!

1. Budget

Weddings are expensive. The Knot found the national average cost of a 2017 wedding to be $33,391. If you aren't looking to blow your entire savings or even go into debt for a one day celebration, then eloping might be right for you.

2. The chance to travel somewhere new, exciting, and romantic!

You don't need to travel anywhere to elope, but you might want to. This one is geared towards those of you who are looking at a destination wedding. You can put all the money you're saving by not feeding 50-300 people towards the trip of a lifetime!

3. Less Planning = Less Stress

There is an entire market for wedding planners for a reason. Wedding planning is a lot of work, attention to detail, and coordination with others. Forget all the extras. Forget the bridal party group messages and disagreements about things that will be forgotten the day after. And forget spending all your free time researching, budgeting, and peeling hot glue off your fingers from DIY projects.

4. You don't like to be the center of attention.

Maybe you're a crier and you don't want to cry in front of everyone you know. Maybe you're a nervous sweater and you'd rather not have to hug everyone that way. Maybe you don't like speaking in front of crowds. The solution to these problems: DON'T DO IT. Run the other way. Run all the way to Vegas, Ireland, Paris, or wherever you can relax with your love!

5. You want to avoid some of your relatives.

The racists: Do they even deserve an invitation? Will one of your family members be mad if you don't invite them? Both questions you don't have to answer if you just elope.

The opinionated: Who asked them what they think of your dress, house, new job, registry items, etc.? The answer: no one.

The mean: self explanatory.

The one that drinks too much at every wedding, ever. Weddings drunks are sometimes funny, but are always a liability. Injuries, fights, property damage all waiting to happen.

6. Less Waste = Better for everyone, because everyone lives on the planet

Mother Earth thanks you. She says thank you by giving you the most beautiful places as backdrops for your environmentally-friendly celebration of love.

7. More Freedom the Day Of

As photographers, we help a lot of couples create and alter their timelines for wedding day. It's always packed and usually requires a little magic to make it all fit. Of course we make it work, but there's just an entirely different atmosphere for elopement days. The only timeline to worry about is yours. You can enjoy your day as it unfolds and not stress over what everyone else is doing. Can you even be late if you're the only two attending?

8. More time to adventure and take the photos you will cherish for the rest of your lives

You know how most weddings have a cocktail hour where the couple, family, and bridal party are trying to fit in all the photos? Well, if you elope, you can have a cocktail evening! You can spend all the time you want drinking, wandering, and taking candids of yourselves as newlyweds.

9. It's frickin' romantic!

Elopements are just about the love that two people share and the fact that they want to dedicate their entire existences to one another. They are intimate and emotional in all the best ways.

10. It can be whatever you want it to be.

Still want the gown and tux? Go for it! Want something less formal? You do you! That opinionated relative isn't going to be there to judge or make comments. You are free to be yourself and plan a ceremony and day that authentically reflects the magnitude of choosing your life partner.
